Remote Laser Scanner
For the highest demands on quality and economic efficiency in car body construction and in the production of battery modules and electric motors
In automotive construction, high-precision weld seams must be set in extremely short cycle times. Defective welded vehicle parts or even rejects are not permitted. These high demands on the weld seams are met by remote laser welding. On this website you will find remote laser scanners that can be used to produce weld seams with high seam strength, good stiffness and a small heat-affected zone.
What is remote laser welding?
In remote laser welding, two or three sheets are joined together with the help of a laser beam by melting both parts with the laser radiation – without touching the workpiece itself (remote = distance). The laser radiation is absorbed by the material and converted into thermal energy. After solidification of the weld pool, a permanent weld seam is created.
The distance between the laser and the workpiece is usually between at least 300 mm up to 1,000 mm and more. The advantage of remote laser welding is that with each additional mm of distance between the remote laser scanner and the workpiece, the components are exposed to less wear. It also allows better access to the workpiece and reduces the risk of collision between the scanner optics, the workpiece and the laser welding system.
The laser beam of the remote laser scanner is directed via fast-moving mirror systems in the scanner and can thus be focused precisely on the workpiece surface. At the same time, the scanner is moved over the component, which significantly reduces travel times between weld seams and thus cycle times.
